Hey there,
We played twice as much kickball last Sunday and the podcast matched that by being double the normal length, hitting almost 90 minutes. I listend to most of the podcast live for the first time this season and there were tons of calls, cursing, and consuming of alcohol. On top of the four special guests, there were a record number of call-ins from representatives of Asteroid Head, The Ghosts, The Late Fees, and Dirty Mike & The Boyz. Give it a listen!
Special Guests: Caitlin Dix, Jack McFarland, Kristoffer Dover, and Jacki Becker.
And don’t forget, you can call in anytime to leave a voicemail for the podcasters at 785-504-4700.
——————–
I took the night off of work to organize the twenty-six entries from the KVKL Bracket Challenge. At this point the prize pack includes a 12-pack of Hamms, concert tickets, passes to Liberty Hall cinema, and probably some other crap. At the moment Sara Rock is kicking your ass, Diana Garcia is just two points from the top, and out-of-stater Adam Mitchell is somehow in third (I imagine my expert commentary over the season has really helped him out).
Cheers,
Coach Billy Gay Cyrus

Sara Rock dominates sports predictions. Play Fantasy Football with her if you love losing.

Funny show this week. I was hoping to hear more about the altercations but whatever. I’ll always argue for a trashier, bridge-burning, more personality-driven show.
Music was Boris’ Pink and Siriusmo’s Einmal In Der Woche Schreien. I believe that’s German for ‘I cry every week’.

Totally agreed Nate. Dish the dirt. Also I noticed you guys only had one guest from the Holcom games. Also it seems all year its been the same guests every week, I know its late now but there are 32 teams and there were a lot of teams that didn’t get a chance to be on the podcast…why not have a Corksucker or a Free St. Growler on the podcast? A Wildman or West Coast guy/gal? Maybe something to consider for next year.

Also thanks Cougar for sneaking in our score against Pita Pit in there before Erin cut you off, I’m proud of our team!

Thanks for the feedback Adam!
I try pretty hard to invite new people as often as I can. We obviously have our favorites, but most of the people who come on the show have asked to be on it. Its hard to hunt new people down every week.
The biggest problem is getting a time and day that works for enough people.
Some people have turned us down because of their schedules, some people turn us down because they don’t believe that they would have enough to talk about, and some people turn us down because they don’t listen to the podcast and don’t see the point in joining us.
Sometimes we invite someone who has a bunch of great ideas and opinions, but then they turn out to be mic shy,
We have no idea how many people actually even listen on any given week, and we cant see who is listening live, just the format they are using to listen.
The only feedback we normally get is from the people that come up to us after the games on Sundays and tell us about how much they loved “guest A” or hated “guest B”
You can normally find Nate, Cougar and myself at GOTW, and often at Replay after the games. The more feedback we get the harder we try to work on making the podcast more enjoyable for everyone.

Not that it matters, but I’ve heard it stated a couple times this year that Star Bar is just Eastsiders + two others compared to last year. It’s definitely more of a mixed bag than that. It’s 4 guys and 1 girl, from eastsiders, 3 guys from los luch, 1 guy from Brew Ballers and 3 girls who have never played in the KVKL before. For the most part we have experience players, but not as experienced playing together before this season as has been mentioned on the podcast, that is all. Good luck to everyone this weekend!

Thanks for clearing that up.
That does bring up a question, for me though. Can you contact me privately by email, twitter or facebook?

erin did a great job in describing how they go about finding people to be on the podcast. it’s harder to do than you think. you have to watch a lot of games, not just your own, you can’t end up with a case of beer goggles and miss important plays, and you often get put on the spot as to who you think is going to win or lose a game when maybe you weren’t prepared to have an opinion if you have friends on said teams.
i think that cougar, nate and erin work really hard on finding new people to be on the podcast. however by using my trident and threatening their genitals, i have managed to be on the podcast quite often…..

Just want to say I have no problem with the guests they’ve had, they’ve all been great, I liked you and Sean the best!

oh but wait i really wanted to talk about my bracket…i knew i was doing bad, but fucking second to last place, sheesh. kyle sheline who has only watched ONE game all season is doing better than me…..

Mick, I didn’t know my last name was Swedish.

Yeah, crazy right?
Posted by sacred_bunt on August 17, 2011 at 7:41 pm
3 points out of first?! I don’t want to brag or anything, but man, I know my kickball. Although, I must admit if it hadn’t been for Mick’s expert commentary I wouldn’t be doing so well. And the truth is, I just want the twelve pack of Hamm’s shipped to me, and to sell the concert tix on Ebay. Also, I won’t win, because my Less-Awesome bracket championship game already can’t happen since Mick’s late-fees got all uppity, decided not to sandbag, and almost shocked the world against my Sword, and the Replay decided to out drink the Growlers and cost me my prize pack.
But the moral of the story is when you play kickball for eight years straight you can make sweeping generalizations about some teams (new and old) make a couple of wild upset picks (Dirty Mike and Asteroidhead) not watch a single game all year and still be in third place.
i can’t wait to see everyone on the 28th!

In my books you’ve already won. I’ll have a 12 pack of hamm’s waiting for you.

Summer Brew is the worst thing in the world.

The only thing worse than summer brew is losing. Zi~ing.
